What Our Customers Think
Why We Love Levittown, NY
About Levittown
Levittown, New York, is a suburban community in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, on Long Island. It was built by Levitt & Sons, Inc. between 1947 and 1951 as a planned community for returning World War II veterans. With its affordable housing, Levittown quickly became a symbol of postwar suburbia. Although Levittown provided an opportunity for thousands of people to become homeowners, it also came under criticism for its exclusionary practices, as initial lease agreements prohibited rental or use by non-Caucasians. This policy was eventually overturned by the courts in 1948, but Levittown remains a significant chapter in the history of American suburban development.
