Why We Love Oyster Bay, NY

About Oyster Bay

Baldwin, New York, is a hamlet and census-designated place located in the town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The community is named after the Baldwin family, who were early settlers of the area and owned a large amount of land there. Baldwin’s history dates back to the 17th century when it was originally known as ‘Hick’s Neck’ after a local settler, John Hicks. It was later renamed ‘Baldwinsville’, and then shortened to ‘Baldwin’. The area saw significant growth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly with the arrival of the South Side Railroad in 1867 which provided a direct link to New York City. Today, Baldwin is known for its suburban atmosphere and quality schools.

Oyster Bay, New York, has a rich history dating back to its founding in the 17th century. The area was originally inhabited by the Matinecock Native American tribe, before being settled by the Dutch in the 1630s. It was later transferred to English control in the 1660s. The town played a significant role in the Revolutionary War, serving as a British stronghold. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Oyster Bay became a popular residential area for New York's elite, including President Theodore Roosevelt. Today, it's known for its historic sites, natural beauty, and oyster farming industry.
