About North Merrick

Baldwin, New York, is a hamlet and census-designated place located in the town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. The community is named after the Baldwin family, who were early settlers of the area and owned a large amount of land there. Baldwin’s history dates back to the 17th century when it was originally known as ‘Hick’s Neck’ after a local settler, John Hicks. It was later renamed ‘Baldwinsville’, and then shortened to ‘Baldwin’. The area saw significant growth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly with the arrival of the South Side Railroad in 1867 which provided a direct link to New York City. Today, Baldwin is known for its suburban atmosphere and quality schools.

North Merrick is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County, New York, United States. The community is served by the North Merrick Union Free School District. North Merrick was first settled in the 1640s by English colonists who named it after the town of Merrick in England. The area was originally used for farming and was largely undeveloped until the 20th century when it became a popular suburb for New York City commuters due to its proximity to the city and the Long Island Rail Road. Today, North Merrick is known for its residential character and its schools, which are considered among the best in the region.
